Coming from far away Brazil invited by Shenzhen Airlines - the first mainland Chinese company foreigner pilots hirer - arriving China in middle 2004 made me watch the Olympic Games on TV even though the live events were displayed late at night. That was because as an active child and teenager, sports were huge piece of my daily life : diving, state swimming championships and even the 1975 national gymnastics national championships were events I participated before starting to fly at age of 16, beginning of a life as an aircraft professional.
Getting emotional seeing that Chinese youngsters competing was creating inside me a strange connection I could not completely understand … My eyes becoming wet every time their eyes got wet in the podium when singing the National Song; shouting at the same time they shouted on TV, did not matter if their shout was due to gladness or frustration explosion. Just like if a torch fire was light up inside my chest and head it was like if I were in Greece cheering them GO! GO! GO!
(By that time I did not know JIA YOU! JIA YOU! JIA YOU!)
Those yellow-red uniforms were my favorite as were the green-yellow from my beloved born-country.
Now almost 4 years have passed and my knowledge of Chinese skies, language and people has grown exponentially. New Olympic Games are about to begin and the comprehension of all that emotional connection came as a scientific fact, read in a China Daily article in which a controversy theory was written that 4 millennia ago an exodus of people living in this Middle Land happened. They walked all the way through Behring strait to Alaska, North, Central and South America going to form several nations called later by Europeans as The Indians.
It is all true! I am myself a living proof of that history theory.
Take a look at this fact: my whole family came from Amazonia. Like any other Amazonian person whose blood is a mix of Europeans and forest native Indians my face, hair and skin are Chinese formed in a manner that all my friends here, pilots and flight attendants of Shenzhen Airlines call me Xinjiang ren, as if I was born in Xinjiang Province.
As spiritual connection can not be shown it would be nice to see science through LeNovo computers explain it mathematically and genetically.
Meanwhile keep serving this people by flying them inside modern machines trough Chinese skies still makes my China daily life feels as just great as participating on worldwide events,
Thanks for those old ones who foot-walked across the world and thanks for these modern ones who brought me back home after 4000 years. Jorge Barra Viegas - Qiaozhi Weijiasi
