I am a female American lawyer working in China for the past 7 years as the Head of Asia and Managing Partner for Beijing of one of the largest international law firms in the world. On the call of the central government for Chinese companies to go international, I have been honored to represent in the past few years 5 out of the 6 of the largest Chinese state owned oil companies in their international acquisitions of oil and gas assets, to build pipelines and to deal with various international oil companies to help with the energy need for China's fast development. I am listed as an Energy and Natural Lawyer¨CChina in Expert Guide published by a world authoritative magazine.
For example, I was the lead counsel in representing CNPC in its landmark $4.18 billion acquisition of PetroKazakhstan in 2005 the largest ever international acquisition by a Chinese company. I was also the lead counsel for CNOOC's successful acquisition of $ 2.28 billon acquisition of African offshore oil assets, and the join acquisition by CNPC and the Indian ONGC in joint acquisition of Syrian assets.
As a foreign lawyer with international expertise in oil and gas, I am very proud to be serving the Chinese companies in their endeavor to go international. These multi-billion-dollar transactions do not only help rewrite the world map of oil and gas and help bring Chinese companies to be top tier international companies, they also help the world understand more of Chinese culture.
I love China and I love Beijing. In my capacity as the Chairperson of the Financial Service Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, I led 28 committee members in a tree planting program in 2004 and planted trees in the suburbs of Beijing to help a "green" Beijing.
The spirit of the Olympics always inspires me in my life and in providing my legal experience in helping Chinese companies go international. I have seen many cultural differences between the countries that I have worked with and I have a keen desire to promote understanding of various cultures of the world and promote the world's understanding of the Chinese culture. I adore the " One World, One Dream" theme of the Olympics and I have a strong desire to be part of carrying the symbol of this theme by being a torchbearer of the Olympics in Beijing.
