Ni hao,my name is Franziska. To learn more about China and me - read my story. CHINA AND I As a broardcaster for China Radio International I reach many people around the world every day. I tell the my listeners about the Olympic spirit, the Olympis Games, about Olympic legends and about incredible stories behinde the Games. I love my job, because sport has always played an important role in my life. When I still lived back home in Germany I played league basketball (in the 4th league from the top) and I coached two youth teams. Since I came to China I train with the CRI men basketball team and I can keep up with them. I also run 7 kilometers a day. My devotion for sport and my passion for it made me the sport princess of the German department at CRI. And I therefore found myself participating in the 1.500-Meter competition at the CRI athletic festival – I ran to the silver medal. Beiing the sport princess gives me the opportunity to host CRI’s Olympic Radio – and this programm is made for me. Having travelled most of the venues of the Olympic Games 2008 myself I tell people about the cities Tianjin, Shenyang, Qingdao, Qinhuangdao, Shanhai and Hongkong of course as Beijinger by choice about Beijing. And I tell them about the fascinating stadiums like the bird’s nest or the water cube or the basketball hall at Wukesong. I also introduce my listeners to the sweet Olympic maskots, the fuwa. And I also break the secret behind their names. (For all who don’t know: their names Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying,Nini form the sentence Beijing huan ying ni – Beijing welcomes you) But there is a lot more to my programms. I also want, that the German speaking listeners get a correct picture of China, this vast, versatile, fascinating and rapidly developing country. I am painting a colourful picture of the Chinese culture, Chinas history, the amazing achievments since the beginning of the reform and opening and most important about China’s people and their dreams. For decades the Chinese had one dream – to host the Olympic Games. This dream has come true and I am able to witness this moment. Bearing the torch would make me part of this dream and for me a dream would also come true, my dream of being part of the Olympic family. China and Germany have been friendly partners for 35 years now – and for more than two years I have had my share in this very good relationship. Everyday I send out my voice to inform the listeners about China. By doing so I help to reduce prejudices, to wipe out stereotypes and I contribute to create a harmonious world. Making me, the sport princess of CRI, a torchbearer would convince many people that it is worth to fight for a better understanding between people around the world. It would prove that everyone can play an important role in making this world a harmonious planet.
