Living in China for over 10 years continuously, in Beijing since 1998 and Nanjing before that (94, 96-97). Speak Chinese fluently 而且已经有很强的北京口音了。。。哎呀,没办法啦 :)
Was student, teacher (who wasn't?), translator, and then research fellow before finally moving into business and becoming a consultant.
Favorite places in China: cosmopolitan areas of Beijing where even the old ladies doing fan dances are not surprised to hear you speak Chinese, and Xinjiang where people think I'm a local.
Currently work at Google and serve as the Vice Chair of American Chamber in Commerce in China.
Worst part of the new China: everybody speaks such great English now that I slip into Chinglish rather than learning new words. (Oh, and the driving too...argh)
Most importantly, have played volleyball with great friends from the Beijing Volleyball club for almost 10 years now, including a few who used to play professionally but mostly those who just want to have fun. Love the international groups that come together to play sports in Beijing. The best games are not the highest level of skill but always the one with the most laughing on the court...and off the court afterwards at the dinner table!
Active cyclist and occasional amateur triathlete, so hopefully would be able to carry the torch long enough. If not, will ask the 103-year old lady to help me across the finish line. :D
